About Me:	In 2015 I was active here as proponent of conservative Christianity. Since then, I've undergone soul-searching and found my previous belief systems to be invalid. Abortion should be legal

Pro has to defend abortion being legal for some period of time during pregnancy. Con has to defend bans on all abortion except in cases where abortion is required to save the parent's life and in cases of sexual assault. First round is for acceptance. No new arguments in the final round....

Universal Basic Income

This debate is for 1harder's Spring Regular Tournament. All the settings of this debate are in accordance with the tournament's rules. Resolution: The U.S. should replace existing welfare programs with a universal basic income (UBI). I propose that every adult receive an annual, basic income of $10,000. •	Abortion	ProComments We see value human life because humans can experience their surroundings as well as interact with them in ways that other organisms cannot. We don't value life just because it's alive; otherwise we'd take a lot more issue with the death of bacteria and plants. Fetuses aren't capable of the above to the degree that children and adults are, so there's no reason to see both as of equal worth.

•	Border Fence	ConComments It's costly, it doesn't deter crime, it harms the animal habitats, and the decline in immigration can be explained by other causes. It just isn't effective. I think there should be some level of border security though.

•	Death Penalty	ConComments The death penalty requires a long and complex judicial process that is quite expensive and unnecessary. The money used for it could go to much better causes. Life without parole is punishing enough, and is cheaper anyway. Society does not need to go this far, and it hasn't anyway. In 2014, 35 people were executed in the U.S. This alone shows that it's not been used much anyway, and it only punishes the worst of criminals - not all people who kill. The moral argument doesn't really have any bearing on my opinion.
•	Drug Legalization	ProComments Legalization would lead to a decrease in drug use. It would save money that is being used to prohibit drugs. With legalization, the government can regulate and control the selling of them, instead of simply trying to punish people who do drugs and use up jail space by throwing them in it just because they were smoking weed.
•	Electoral College	ConComments The Electoral College makes it so that a president with the minority vote can get elected. This is an unfair representation of democracy. It also gives unequal power to each state and makes it so that a vote in one state has more of an effect on the outcome than a vote in another state. If you are voting in a solid state then your vote doesn't really count at all, it just gets lost in the wave of other voters in that state. For example, if you vote Republican in Illinois, your vote will just be run over by the majority of the population living in Chicago. The only states where your vote will hold the most weight are swing states like Florida and Ohio that determine each outcome of each election.
•	Environmental Protection	ProComments We should protect our planet, but it shouldn't be a top priority or crisis matter. Other issues like foreign relations and terrorism are more important than saving the trees.

I don't oppose gun rights in general though, so I'm pro.
•	Homeschooling	ProComments Some people are bullied at school, can't interact with others well, or have autism or social issues where homeschooling is better. Many homeschoolers are doing well and would do worse if they were shoved into public school.
•	Internet Censorship	ConComments Censor explicit stuff if anything. Everything else should be free.

•	Minimum Wage	ConComments The price of labor should be agreed on between the corporation and employee, without brick walls such as the MW in the way. If I am a teen, want to get my first job, and wish to start out earning low (such as $5 or $7 per hour), no one will hire me because of the MW being too high. I can't start out earning $10 because I don't have much to offer and wouldn't be very persuasive with no job experience. Thus, it decreases employment and should just be rid of entirely. If not, then at least keep it low.
