A few things to clarify:

I will be arguing that dogfighting should be legal

Dogfighting is a type of bloodsport in which (generally) you oppose two game dogs against each other in a ring or a pit for the entertainment of the spectators or the gratification of the dogfighters.

Although I am not entirely FOR dogfighting, I believe it should be legal.

I invite my opponent to step forwards and place their arguments on the table first for their first round.

Dogfighting should never ever be legalized. This is just another way of animal abuse, However, I do understand that killing / hurting an animal is animal abuse such as killing chickens, Pigs, Cows, Etc; That is a different topic, Those animals did not have a chance of living. Why should dogs fight each other? Are people out of their minds? They pay thousands or even millions of their money to look after a strong healthy dog, Why waste the money and let their dogs fight? What if it does not turn out right? Dogs are just like humans, They can talk (bark), They have feelings, They are energetic and can get really hungry and thirsty. Us humans has the same instincts as them. I fully go against the idea of legalizing dogfighting. It is just really cruel and vile. Dogs can die from this and if we keep this up, They'll go extinct. A dog being killed by another dog is just the same as a human being killed from another human. This is called murder, Yet people find it alright to let dogs have the rights to murder anything they want. I DO NOT STAND WITH DOGFIGHTING!

Right, A few things. You first say that dogfighting is animal abuse. That is clearly debatable. We kill hundreds of thousands of animals for their meat. However, It has been scientifically PROVEN that a vegetarian diet is perfectly acceptable and at times even healthier than their meat counterparts. Animal abuse is only considered "animal abuse" if the society does not benefit from these actions. A lot of people like dogfighting, And generates jobs as well as tax revenue for the government. Therefore, Dogfighting IS NOT animal abuse. Another thing you bring up is that farm animals have no chance of living. That is also weak. In different countries, People have different preferences about dogs. In countries like South Korea and China, Dogs are mostly disregarded by most of the population, While in America, They are kept as pets and live nice lives. On the other hand, In some countries in the Middle East, Pigs are of high importance, While Americans slaughter them for their meat. All animals are the same. Since we can kill these farm animals, Why not dogs too?

You also say: "They pay thousands or even millions of their money to look after a strong healthy dog, Why waste the money and let their dogs fight? What if it does not turn out right? Dogs are just like humans, They can talk (bark), They have feelings, They are energetic and can get really hungry and thirsty. "

Yes, They do pay thousands. But that argument is weak. It is like questioning one living in the Bronze Age why they would make their spear of top quality if it is just going to be damaged in a real fight. Dogs don't even die in these fights, But get injured. You bring up the point that dogs are like humans. True, But take wrestling competitions; Humans are always pitted against other humans, And it is completely true that everyone who wrestles uses up a lot of money to go train themselves and eat, And also treat their injuries. There is literally no difference between dogfighting and wrestling. Since wrestling is a thing, Why shouldn't dogfighting be?

I wait for Con's response.

First of all, I said Dogfighting is animal abuse because it technically is, You let a dog in and they will fight each other to death. However, When I said that Farm Animals Has No Chance Of Living, I meant it in a way as they are going to be used as meat for other people to eat. The statement you have said "A lot of people like dogfighting, And generates jobs as well as tax revenue for the government" has also been a point why I disagree with dogfighting. Lets take bullying as an example. So a person bullies someone else because they like it, Bullying also generates attention, Making the bully feel more superior to targets and it has no good in it. The government can gain its tax revenue from other jobs, Why get it from dogfighting? Putting dogs' lives at risk just for our entertainment? ! Come on, That is not right at all. There are sadists in this world, But why dogs?

Many dogs do die because of dogfighting. Therefore the statement you have presented is false. "Dogs don't even die in these fights, But get injured. " It is true that dogs will get severe and often fatal injuries. These dogs who participates in these events often die from blood loss, Shock, Dehydration, Exhaustion, Infections passed on from the opponents, Days or even hours after the fight. If this continues, The dog species will merely become extinct and we can't stop it.

Get this straight, Since you have compared dogfighting with wrestling, You're only thinking about the shallow thoughts. Lets compare.
1) Us humans are capable of deciding our own thoughts, Deciding whether we would like to be part of a wrestling game or to not be, Unfortunately, Dogs does not have the rights to choose, Their owners wants the best of them and they are entitled as slaves, They are no longer a pet to the owners, They work for the owners, They get money for the owners, They suffer pain for the owners, Etc;
2) Wrestling are much more safer than dogfighting. As I have mentioned, Dogs are just like humans, They feel pain, So do we. We use equipment that'll prevent pain for us, However, Dogs cannot do so. Hence why this is unfair for the dogs and we can't compare it with wrestling.
3) And lastly, To support my previous paragraph, It is really really really rare for a wrestler to die from wrestling. There were only 18 people who has died from wrestling ever since wrestling has become a sport in 1904.

" Since wrestling is a thing, Why shouldn't dogfighting be? " This statement is really ignorant and is also lacking strength. If you say that, Then catfighting should be a thing as well, Fishfighting, Mousefighting, Birdfighting. See how ridiculous all those sounded? If humans killed each other at the same rate that we kill animals, We'd be extinct in at lest 3 weeks.

I do not see any purpose in dogfighting. Is it for money? For entertainment? For attention? Whatever it is, There is no point in it. Lets say this, If a human is weak and has no intention in fighting, Then it dies. This is not right at all. Just because someone is weak does not mean that they should die and be put in the spot, Or for this sake, The ring. Dogs has a different mindset from people, How people crave for money, But dogs do not. How people crave for entertainment, But dogs do not. These are just little stuff about the disadvantages of dogfighting. You're only looking at the perspective of a human, Not the dog. The dog is literally the most vital and crucial thing about this debate. This is why we should stop thinking about us humans' perspectives and take a look at the dogs' perspectives instead. When humans act with cruelty, We characterize them as 'animals', Yet the only animal that displays cruelty is humanity.

First off, Slaughter is a harsh term. Meat animals are not chopped to bits while they're still alive. Meat is a valuable source of food and we need food.
Second, I already told you how this argument doesn't work. It's called the moral equivalency fallacy. You can't justify doing something just because people are already doing something equally immoral. You should be advocating whale treatment improvements, Not supporting the additional suffering of more animals for profit.

@K_Michael_Tolman

The point I'm trying to make is that it is simply unfair that we as a nation do not consider slaughtering animals and torturing whales as animal abuse. Therefore, Dogfighting shouldn't be considered as animal abuse as well. We as a society have come to understand that we would put up with animal abuse if it benefits us or sides with our individual preferences. Since dogfighting does for some people, We should legalize it because it has little to no downside.

That's not a solution. Doing bad things doesn't justify doing more bad things. Instead, You should be advocating against this mistreatment of whales.

Conditions for whales in aquariums are horrible. Compared to the whale, The pool they are in is like you in a space the size of a average bathtub, And you sleep, Exercise, And do everything in it. It drives them crazy. They also use sounds to communicate, And so when they try, The sounds bounce off the walls of the pool (instead of travelling far out, Like what happens in their natural habitat; the ocean), Which also drives them crazy. Divers and tamers further hurt whales by riding on their backs, Where most whales have an important fin. The fin is supposed to go straight up, And if it doesn't it means the whale is in a very poor state. Almost all whales in aquariums can only survive for about 8 months, While their average lifespan is supposed to be 10 years. If we are torturing whales like that for human's pure entertainment, Why not legalize dogfighting?

Oh and PS post ur next argument saying for everyone to look in comments for the continuation of the debate, I don't want to make it look like I forfeit.

Replying to Point 3:
As I have stated before, Dogs do die from dogfighting and its really rare for a wrestler to die from wrestling. People make money from wrestling as well. Therefore it is unfair for dogs to die just so people could gain money and entertainment, Or even pleasure. We humans need protein in our diet and body, Therefore we eat meat. That is why we are allowed to slaughter farm animals. They're a great source of protein, But dogs on the other hand, Are more of a friend than food

Haha its ok. Luckily I decided to look through the comments because I was waiting for the argument.

Replying to Point 1:
I do agree that humans does not need to eat meat in order to survive, But, We'll all lack protein, Vitamin B (niacin, Thiamin, Riboflavin, And B6), Vitamin E, Iron, Zinc, And magnesium. Proteins function as building blocks for bones, Muscles, Cartilage, Skin, And blood. So its important that we have meat in our diet, Life is cruel, Its how life is. But since dogfighting is illegal in many countries and preventing dogs from dying, Why legalize it? Not all humans eat dogs anyways. We could eat normal meat like chicken, Lamb, Pork, Etc;

Replying to Point 2:
I cannot go against the fact that dogs are treated differently in other countries because it may be a religious thing which is off topic. However, Imagine you're in the dog's position. You go to China and you're treated like sh*t, You go to America and you're treated like a God. You may think that this is racism or whatsoever but it may be a religious thing. We do not kill pigs because they're smart, We do not kill animals because for fun, We kill animals for food. Its a wildlife thing, You set a dog out in the wild and it'll become a wild dog, It'll start hunting animals and eating them. So you cannot control that. But owning a dog and looking after it has a more different side to it. You take a dog from the wild and train it to become an ordinary dog. I understand the fact that we do whatever we want with our animals because we purchased it. But spending a lot of money for a dog just to kill it makes you a complete imbecile. You kill the dog then eat it. Why not buy a chicken which costs only $3. 50 and it has the same things in the dog meat. I bet you, Out of 100 people, Only a very infinitesimal portion would say that they have eaten a dog, Or even none.

Adding on. . . . . .

Not everyone has to agree with the morality of each and every business endeavor. Many people are against cigarettes, Prostitution, Marijuana or other things that are considered taboo. However, It is not the job of the government to regulate people's morality. Rather the government exists to facilitate/protect trade, Protect people's rights, And help advance a country in terms of society and economy. Again, People have legal dominion over animals [8]. Many feel that we morally have authority over animals as well; even the Bible claims this is so [9]. We allow animal cruelty for sport with other animals like horses [10]. We also use horses to pull us in carriages, And we keep circus animals and force them to perform tricks to a crowd, And keep zoo animals for humans benefit. These animals are subject to worse conditions than others. In short, We impose arbitrary value on dogs that is subjective among the individual. It is nonsensical and unjust to punish people who fight dogs, But not those who abuse other animals unnecessarily for frivolous enjoyment. It is a contradictory double standard. Dog fighting should be legalized. It will likely not be any more popular than it already is on the underground, Since most Americans love dogs [11]. Thus legalizing dogfighting would have legal and moral benefits, But little to no downside.

Adding on to it.

We ignore the pain and suffering of animals when it comes to legalized hunting or factory farms, Yet hypocritically impose a different standard when it comes to dogs.

Point 2: Despite our cultures affinity for dogs (I personally love them), Not all cultures value or appreciate dogs the way we do. In some cultures, Dogs are considered pests. Middle Eastern cultures don't like dogs, And in Asia they eat them [5]. Dogs are not inherently more valuable than any other animal. Animals are valued differently in each culture and by each individual. For example, Hindus believe that cows are very sacred, While many non-Hindu Canadians love to eat them. Animals that Canadians have no problem enslaving, Torturing and slaughtering for their own satisfaction include pigs. Pigs are far smarter and more cognizant, Sentient and self-aware than dogs and even chimpanzees [6]. Yet despite how much brain power they have, We destroy them brutally [7]. Why hold dogs to a different standard? Let"s take a country like Canada as an example. In a country like Canada, Animals are considered property. They can be bought and sold. They do not have rights. We can essentially do what we please with our animals. For example, If I buy a lamb, I can kill it tonight and make lamb chops tomorrow. Thus if I buy a dog, Why couldn't I kill the dog the same way?

Point 3: People will always be drawn to enterprises where they can make money. If people can make money off killing dogs, I fail to see how that's different from profiting off the killing of other animals, Especially animals that are more sentient(again, Like slaughtering a pig for it"s meat). Forcing these people to the black market only makes them criminals unnecessarily, Whereas other people who kill animals out in the open (like farmers and butchers) are not penalized by law. Instead these farmers and butchers pay taxes and the society benefits from their work.

Right since Debate. Org is a piece of ---- when it comes to bugs, I'll just post my argument here.

FOR SOME FLIPPING REASON, THE SYSTEM IS NOT RENDERING MY 3RD ARGUMENT. I HOPE THIS WILL BE THE ONE THAT ACTUALLY WORKS. DEBATE. ORG NEEDS TO FIX ITS CODE, JESUS.

So. . . .

Instead of rebuilding my arguments, I would like to instead rephrase my arguments in a more clear and rebuildable text. Here it is:

Before I get into my arguments, I would like to clarify a few things. First and foremost, Dog fighting is a type of blood sport generally defined as opposing two game dogs against one another in a ring or a pit, For the entertainment of the spectators or the gratification of the dogfighters. Another definition I feel will come up a lot is the term "animal abuse". Animal abuse is the intentional infliction by humans of suffering or harm upon any non-human animal, For purposes other than self-defense or survival. More narrowly, It can be the causing of harm or suffering for specific gain[1]. Note that even though I believe dog fighting should be legalized, It does not mean that I particularly like and enjoy dog fighting.

Point 1: Humans do not need to eat animals in order to survive, And can have a healthy diet without eating meat [2]. Yet a 2014 survey by Harris Interactive and the Humane Research Council found that less than 2% of Americans identified as vegetarian [3]. That means 98% of the American population has no problem with abusing (killing) animals for their own personal satisfaction. Since eating meat is a perfectly fine option for most people, We as a society have accepted that we will tolerate animal abuse when it comes to satiating our individual preferences. Many people enjoy dog fighting. Why is it okay to kill animals for food when we don't need to, But not okay to kill dogs for sport? Consider the fact that people go hunting for animals they do not need or intend to eat, And people often use animals for fur and other arbitrary thi
