I believe that the legal driving age system should be completely done away with. Instead we should institute a system where you are rigorously trained for a year before ever legally hitting the streets. This system would do away with incompetent drivers as a whole, by reducing the amount of people who drive recklessly. Most accidents and traffic problems occur because of a lack of understanding defensive driving, which during this training you will be assessed by professionals who are trained to feed out incompetent people who shouldn't be driving at all. Every year, you'd have to go the DMV and complete a test to show your driving ability, which would be way more intense than the current test where you can legally get a license on one try. My main argument is that age should never be a limiter on what a person can and can't do in a free country, whereas the individual's skills and perception should be the defining factor on whether or not they should drive.
