You may start. . .
Statistically according to deathpenaltyinfo, States without the death penalty actually have less crime then states that enact it. Including states such as New york, New mexico, And Maine. All of which have way lower crime rates then states with the death penalty. You may bring up the argument that comparing smaller states to bigger states is unfair, How 2 states being New york and California have lots of similarities and yet New york Clearly has a lower murder rate then california which has the death penalty. Nextly the death penalty actually costs more than keeping them in prison does. According to the same source, Legal fees and appeals take longer and cost more in death penalty cases. Not to mention the fact that according to marketplace. Org, Keeping a prisoner in jail for life only costs around 30, 000 dollars per prisoner compared to the nearly 100, 000 cost to put a prisoner to death. Finally, What happens if an innocent person gets wrongly sentenced? This has happened quite often in states with the death penalty where an innocent person is executed and is then later found innocent. At least in the prison system the wrongly convicted person would be released after awhile and be able to continue their life. Sources will be posted in my profile comment section if asked for. |
