Many Youtubers are getting banned because of COPPA. These channels are being deleted because they can be seen as "For children". Youtube needs to allow age restrictions to be set by the channel so they do not get deleted for a swear word or two.

I disagree. Youtube should not allow age restrictions. -That provision of the settlement has raised questions among content creators about how to determine if what they upload to YouTube or other platforms is "directed to children. " The answer requires a brief summary of some key COPPA provisions. Passed by Congress in 1998, The Children"s Online Privacy Protection Act is a federal law that protects the privacy of children under 13. COPPA"s foundational principle is one that most people can agree on: Parents " not kids, Companies, Platforms, Or content creators " should be in control when it comes to information collected from children online. - This statement is taken from a FTC site. This is the link- https://www. Ftc. Gov/news-events/blogs/business-blog/2019/11/youtube-channel-owners-your-content-directed-children. Youtube is for everyone. Teachers and students use it every day to show videos about topics like math and science. How are people supposed to look at those videos if there are age restrictions because of swear words? I know that when I watch a movie, There is a lot of swearing in the movie and it is a kid appropriate movie. If kids can watch a movie by Hallmark or Disney with some swearing then they should be allowed to watch videos on Youtube with some swearing. The limit on how young you can be to have an account is 13. That is with parent permission. If kids choose to make an account younger than that and watch inappropriate videos it is their problem and their parent's problem. In conclusion, Youtube should not set age limitations for channels or kids will miss the chance to have a learning opportunity that could benefit them.

There are many Channel Owners who are basing their videos, Not for kids for example Jacksepticeye. He is a variety channel with more than 23 million subscribers. His videos include a lot of swearing. Children under the age of 15/16 should not see these videos on their recommended. Now don't get me wrong many kids will lie and set the wrong age, But their parents will have to deal with an increase in foul language as commonly seen in children. Speech patterns depend on how they hear speech at a younger age. This is why at younger ages you don't have a hard time picking up a language. This is also why you are more susceptible to accents. A southern accent can show up in someone born in Jersey with parents having a Yankee accent, But raised in somewhere like Lousiana. Swearing is the same way. People who grow up hearing swearing from watching a YouTuber daily will pick up swearing and this can cause teachers to write up, Suspend, Or simply give kids detention for disrespectfulness. You bring up how the bill was passed in 1998, But YouTube has only begun enforcing beginning in 2019. Many children with birthdays set correctly can still see videos from YouTubers like Jack or Lazarbeam, Or Muselk who regularly swear in their videos. There may be a bleep to it, But it is quite obvious what they are saying. YouTube recently added the beep sound to their algorithm so that whenever a channel deemed as "for kids" has this sound, They receive a warning. Three warnings and their out. They do not decide who their audience is and this is something effecting not only channel owners but viewers as well.

The parents should not let them have an account if they are going to lie. If the parents hear them swearing, Which most kids choose not to swear in front of their parents or teachers, But among friends, Then the parents should take away most activities and ground them if they choose to be disrespectful. Now, I am not going to lie, It is hard to speak against the truth. Most of your points are hard to disagree with so good job at that. My point is that what if Youtube were to hear someone speaking in an accent and were to listen to it. They could mistake words for swear words because it is in an accent. So they get their accounts deleted and then get upset about it. It would all be because Youtube can't handle swear words. What about the other topics like the news and they have a video of Trump swearing. It is just someone reporting the news, And they get in trouble for something that Trump said? Besides, If the kids are just going to lie about their age, Why bother putting up restrictions? Their parents could show it to them and then the kids would see it anyway. Youtube has no need to put up restrictions because people should just mind their manners on Youtube and remember that anyone could be watching, And not swear or say stupid things. Some kids go to adult channels for advice. Youtube should not put age restrictions.

Many jobs require the individual to be as professional as possible. Without this, Retail, Customer service, And many community jobs would be complete chaos. Nobody wants to shop somewhere where the person behind the counter swears. This will be a grown subject the more and more children hear these things. Parents of this generation are less caring and allow their kids to do more and more. Swearing in the common household is not uncommon. Younger kids set up accounts and are completely honest when they do because they haven't quite learned what lying is yet. They are honest until around the age of five. After that, They develop the dexterity to lie. That is why fourteen-year-olds can say their eighteen, But five-year-olds are brutally honest. Yes, That is a large age gap, But you know what I mean, If accounts are set younger then they can more regulate who watches what. It is the parents' job to decide whether or not their kids watch the news. I never watched the news as a child. This has pros and cons, But that is for a different debate. Children are taught everywhere, Outside of the home at least, Not to swear because it is wrong and unprofessional. Saying dumb things can either cause a laugh or a fight it depends on your audience. Some people can't handle more than a single minorly rude comment. Some people can get yelled at and still be okay. We as a human race are adapting to a swearing but snowflake environment as long as we allow children to binge-watch hours of YouTube, We will get more and more swearing.

There is also the fact that adults are put as the people who know all. From children, We are taught to trust adults. Most YouTubers that are having troubles with this are also adults who want their channels to be adult only. Because of YouTube not putting in that channel owners can choose their audience, They end up banned because a 12-year-old watched something they shouldn't have. This can cut off someone's entire living payment. YouTube should allow channel owners to set age restrictions.

Yes, But not all jobs require professionalism. If you go to shop some where and someone is swearing at you, Sure you may not like it, But what can you do. They could get fired from their job and then people may not trust them as well. That is highly unlikely though, Just for swearing. Even if YouTube were to set age restrictions, The person would still be in the age range to watch all of the videos and they would still swear behind the counter. Many kids grow up in a family where their parents are swearing because they grew up with it and it is a loop. Kids mainly learn to swear from daily life when they were kids and with their friends. Even if they do not watch YouTube, Their friends do and then they swear. Besides that, Who sets up a YouTube account at age 5? They are not allowed till they are 13. Who cares if someone lies about their age though. Most men have something bad happen at age 30, For example, They go to jail, Then they set their lives straight. Who cares about occasional swearing. A lot of people in the world swear to look good. If our world was not so judgemental, We would not have to worry about swearing. Besides, Who cares about swearing. My brother had his teacher in grade. 4 show a video to the class that they did not need to watch until they were in an older grade. Since grade. 4, My brother has known about sex and his classmate saw the video and chose to watch a video about how to properly kiss a girl. This teacher still would have been able to show the video, Even with restrictions, Because they are old enough. How is age restrictions going to fix the problem when you can easily lie about your age then watch the videos. You could lie or you could get your parents to log into their account for YouTube, Then you could watch on a older account. There are many videos on YouTube that are helpful because they teach many things. If someone has 22 videos that help people learn but they have 28 that are inappropriate, They could set age restrictions that do not need to be set, Then children do not get the benefit of the learning videos. That is why YouTube should not set age restrictions.

So if this creepy video maker want children to see hardcore porn, He won't set age restriction, Resulting in that children saw things they should not have. Youtube ha' nothin' on it, And cannot do anything about it. Is this what you are saying?
