i think gay should be able to marry because its a free country
"i think gay should be able to marry because its a free country". Yes, you are right, we do live in a free country. However, when concerning marriage, there are some limitations, as there must be with anything to avoid a chaotic society. If same-sex marriage was allowed, we would have no basis to oppose polygamy/bigamy (being married to multiple people at once), incest (sexual or marital relations to people who are closely related in blood to you), pedophilia (adult/child marriages or sexual relations), marriage to inanimate objects, or other types of marriage that are commonly frowned upon in America today. Marriage is described as a union between a man and a woman. Part of the reason for this is the ability to have children takes a man and a woman. Yes, adoption is an option, but it is extremely hard to adopt for a gay couple. Traditionally, marriage is between a man and a woman. Traditions have upheld the society in which we live for many many years now, why change that? |

ya but if gays want to marry then let them let them lve a happy life. have a cousin thats guy and th first year was hard but then i thought that if that makes her happy then let her be happy with the girl she likes.
Mybe if they would let gays walk aund the world without people makeing fun of them then maybe the world would be a more happy place for gay people to live. Gay peple are just lke us they have feeling they have a life toes fingers hair ll of the stuff a strait person has.they that is different with them is that they like the same gender as them. i am just beginning with debate so im really bad at this so ya
Homosexuals have the same chances at happiness as heterosexuals do; the only difference is that homosexuals cannot legally be married in most states. Being a homosexual is a personal choice, and if the person is content with their choice, then they should not have any problem with people occasionally "making fun" of them because they chose to be a homosexual. ______________________________________________________________________________________ I apologize, burbachrocks, but I see no relevance in bringing up the fact that homosexuals have life, fingers, feelings, hair, toes, etc. Everyone is born with this (well, almost everyone), and the choice to become a homosexual is a personal one. If you would like to expand on this argument, I would be happy to post a rebuttal to it, but at the moment I don't find it relevant. |

thank you but it's not a persionall choice it's in there dna i dont knkow how it is but i watched a special t.v show and they said it was in their d.n.a but thank you for takeing your time and debateing wth me . debate with you ater....
Do you have proof that it is in their DNA, besides that you saw a special TV show that said it was? Because the media doesn't always tell the truth. Someone having a "homosexual gene", or however you would phrase that, in their DNA is something that is greatly disagreed and agreed upon by different people. It is not a proven fact, however, at least not to my knowledge. There have been many disputes on if this is an accurate statement. The only real way to explain it is that it is a personal choice, unless or until someone proves otherwise. You are welcome for the debate. |

rangersfootballclub: I don't know if I understood your comment correctly, when you said something along the lines of "just pretend every time he said marriage he said civil partnership or something!". But if I did, then the thing is that he didn't say "civil partnership", he said "marriage" which is completely different."
Some reading material for you

I don't think you really understand the "basis" for opposing gay marriage. I'll give you a hint: it's your religion. That's it. There are actual, logical reasons for opposing pedophilia and incest that don't involve religion at all.
Shouldn't be a big issue. Just line the entire room with plastic.......
I can see why you would be sympathetic towards a female cousin and her lesbian lover, but would you really lend your bedroom to a male cousin and his boyfriend?
RFD: All points to CON. PRO had bad spelling and grammar, unsubstantiated arguments, and uncited sources.
