I believe that a hot dog IS NOT a sandwich because of its bread-like features. It's just like a burrito! Would you consider a BURRITO a sandwich? I didn't think so!

A hot dog is clearly a sandwich as it is a filling surrounded by bread on most sides. To say it is a burrito is incorrect as a burrito is made from a tortilla, A special type of material that defines it. A hot dog is not wrapped with a tortilla and therefore cannot be a burrito, However it is surrounded by bread making it technically a sandwich.

Alright, I see where you are coming from. You believe it is not a burrito because it is in fact lacking the tortilla, Which is a key feature. But something that does classify a sandwich to be so, Is its skinny, Slim texture between the TWO SLICES of bread that is not existent in the form of a hot-dog. Meaning, A hot dog is clearly NOT a sandwich. Also, Think about what goes into a hot-dog versus what goes into a sandwich. Comparing a hot-dog; you use the meat, And maybe some ketchup and mustard. Sandwiches have many components going in to them to establish the grand collective outcome. Another occurrence with sandwiches is that meat isn't needed within the sandwich, (although it is often preferred) and can still be considered a sandwich. While if you took a hot dog, And removed the meat, It would pretty much be nothing at all! You may believe in veggie-dogs as a non-meat option, But technically, They aren't hot-dogs. While sandwiches without meat are still sandwiches!

Ah yes but that"s where the key distinctions lie. A burrito is very specific, It must be a tortilla wrapped into a certain shape to classify itself as a burrito. A sandwich however, Is much more liberally defined. A sandwich is some bread with special I ingredients within, A hotdog shares this in common thus rendering it a sandwich. Sandwiches themselves have a vast variety of toppings all can be completely different if you wanted it to be, Although it wouldn"t sound appealing, Having just sauce in your sandwich would still classify it as such. Therefore the most logical conclusion is that a hotdog is just a specific type of sandwich, Similar to a ham sandwich or a PB&J. Sure if you remove the meat from a Hot Dog it"s just bread, But surely that is the case with every single sandwich on earth, Remove the central ingredient and it"s either just bread or sauce and bread. There is no huge distinction and thus I claim that a hotdog is in fact just a specific type of sandwich like a ham sandwich may be.

I have to side with hehehe on this one. A "hot dog" is defined by the OED [the ultimate English dictionary] as "A sausage, Typically a frankfurter or wienerwurst, Esp. One served hot on a long, Soft roll. " I accept the fundamental difference between meat and other materials between two slices of thin-sliced bread, The definition of a sandwich from the same source, And a sausage in a bun. On the other hand, Desperate for a hot dog, Without having a bun, I have put a hot "sausage" within two slices of bread and some deli mustard [never catsup! ] and still called it a hot dog. So muh for semantics.
