7/20/2018 8:36:38 PM Posted: 3 years ago Bitcoin, along with the other cryptocurrencies are generally "safe" in terms of security, but definitely not in terms of riskiness as an investment. Stock, bond, commodity, and FX prices rarely fluctuate more than a couple of percentage points while the cryptos frequently rise and fall by 5%+ in 24 hours. As of 4:34pm EST on 7/20/18, Ethereum is down almost 5% in the last 24 hours and Litecoin is down over 5%. In the last 12 months, however, both have practically doubled in price, but are still far off their historical highs.
You should not tie up any cash in crypto that you are banking on for important purchases, your mortgage, food budget, etc. You should only invest that which you'd be comfortable losing 100% of. That all said, the upside and returns can be enormous. |
