I do not think that it could be denied that luck plays a huge role in success in any field. Luck alone is not enough and certainly people with skill and determination can, to some extent, make their own opportunities but nevertheless it should be recognised that fortune does have a role to play.
Luck or positive chance is a part of being successful. Keith Richards and Mick Jagger would not likely be as successful as they are if they had not met, and they probably would not have met otherwise. There are thousands of little things that happen everyday that affect our lives that we cannot control.
When people are successful, it isn't entirely raw talent that makes them that way. The planets have to align in a way that allows them to exercise that talent - it helps to have connections and skill, but in reality the opportunities that come along to showcase that talent are coincidence more than anything else.
No, you do not have to be lucky in order to be successful as proven by the many entrepreneurs and celebrities who pulled themselves up through the ranks by working hard and bringing passion to their craft. A chance meeting is not something people should rely on in order to find fame or financial success.
